A Multicultural Literature Blog for Writers
About Me
My name is Laura, and I recently graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis on Professional Writing. It was practically impossible to find me when I was younger without a book in my hand. If it wasn’t in my hand, it was within a few feet if I felt the urge to read a few chapters before starting the next thing. My passion for reading has taught me to appreciate creativity in all aspects of life.

My favorite thing about GCU was the various classes and fields I had the opportunity to explore. I took everything from grant writing to creative writing to journalism and beyond. One class I especially enjoyed was multicultural literature because it showed me how to find common themes between authors of every culture imaginable.

About the Blog
When I started my multicultural literature class, I was told that I would have to create a blog. The idea of that was both exciting and terrifying. However, as time went on, I grew more comfortable with writing blog entries and identifying the themes in different literature pieces. Multicultural literature has been an adventure that has taken me around the world and into different cultures, times, and beliefs.

This class focuses on exploring world literature to find themes and connections relevant to an author's personal experiences. We also analyzed how the historical context affected the modern implications of the pieces we read. What I found throughout the class was that even though different cultures and belief systems, even time periods, the themes that an author employed were always still relevant in the modern world.

Global literature transcends the boundaries of different countries, cultures, and belief systems. Even though some literary works may be written by authors from different parts of the world and from a variety of cultures, many of the pieces we read in this class contained many of the same characteristics and ideals. Some of the themes discussed in this blog are carried throughout a multitude of authors and texts. For example, some Native American creation stories contain some of the same themes as Indian (as in the country of India) and Mexican works. Global literature allows us to gain a new perspective of our increasingly cultural world by studying the customs, history, and worldviews of different peoples. I'm excited to hear what you think as you look through the posts!
